BARREL RACING
A women’s event, barrel racing is graceful and simplistic. A cowgirl rides a 3-barrel cloverleaf pattern as quickly as possible, using tight turns and short bursts of speed.
This is a timed event and the rider with the fastest time is the winner. Cowgirls enter the arena at full speed riding an American Quarter Horse. The cloverleaf pattern around the barrels may be started from either the left or right. However, if the horse deviates in any other way the rider is disqualified. A tipped barrel results in a 5-second penalty. Barrel racing is timed to the hundredth of a second.
