TIE DOWN ROPING

Previously known as calf roping, tie down roping involves extraordinary teamwork between the cowboy and his horse in order for the cowboy to rope the calf, get off the horse and throw the calf to the ground and tie any three of the animal’s legs together using “pigging string”.

This is a timed event. The calf is given a headstart while the rider waits behind a barrier. A 10-second penalty is given if the barrier is broken. If the calf kicks out of the ties within 6 seconds, the run is invalid.
